The Siemens Science Experience is a fun three days of exciting hands-on activities in science, technology, and engineering. The program is open for students who have just finished year 9 and will be entering year 10 in the next school year.
During the program students undertake:
- experimental work within university laboratories;
- attend keynote lectures from leading scientists and engineers;
- go on excursions to fun and educational venues; and
- have heaps of fun participating in many social activities.
The program aims to introduce students to as many aspects of science, engineering, and technology, with the hope that they will continue these studies in upper secondary school years and at university. It is also designed to highlight the wide range of careers available in the sciences and technology, in an attempt to encourage these students to pursue these exciting careers.
Griffith University hosts the Siemens Science Experience on both the Gold Coast and Nathan campuse in January each year. The feedback from students and parents, who have undertaken the Siemens Science Experience, is always very positive. The event has also been reported in the local television news, the local newspapers, and on radio.
Siemens Science Experience is a National program, that is held at participating universities around Australia. (See the National Siemens Science Experience website1 for more details)
The Siemens Science Experience is run in association with Rotary International, supported by the Young Scientists of Australia, and the Australian Science Teachers Association.
