Queens Baton Relay

The Tasmanian leg of the Queen’s Baton Relay came to an exciting end with a party on the Hobart waterfront. The Baton Relay is a  prelude to the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April. The  torch passed through Clarence, Bellerive and Glenorchy before being carried by boat from Constitution Dock to Sandy Bay. It then continued by foot along Sandy Bay Rd, through Battery Point to the community event at Princes Wharf. It was a great honour to be chosen to carry the Baton and many worthy Tasmanians were awarded the  privilege. Included was our own Friend of Rotary John Ward.  A tireless worker for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren John was also a nominee for the 2018 Senior Australian of the Year. John proudly  joined the other Baton bearers on his Scooter. The torch will now be taken to Victoria for the next leg of its journey around Australia.
