District Governors Visit

DG John dare with board members

Last week we had the pleasure of a visit from this years District Governor John Dare and his wife Lesley. He first met with the the board before joining the other members for lunch and addressing the club with his overview of plans he would like to see happen during his year as Governor. Growing and retaining membership is still crucial and  there is suggestion that satellite clubs could be formed to attract younger members who are interested in coming together to undertake a particular project. DG John also spoke of the District Conference to be held in Deloraine on the 8th, 9th and 10th of April next year. He left us with the reminder to follow the lead of the World President of Rotary International with the theme of  “Rotary needs to be a gift to the World”

ROTARY YOUTH DRIVER AWARENESS – 2015

‘My Life, My Choices” was the theme for another successful  RYDA programme held this year at the Showgrounds.  Over 2000 students participated in workshops and demonstrations to devise strategies focused on key government ‘big five’ road safety issues of speeding, alcohol and drugs, fatigue, distractions and wearing seatbelts. The programme also addresses the social responsibility aspects of being a driver or passenger and lowering personal risks by making better decisions. Young people aged between 17 and 25 represent less than 15% of the population yet account for roughly a quarter of deaths and injuries on our roads.
