It was on for young and old at the Official Launch Party for Seniors Week 2014. A ‘Day on the Green’ organised by COTA (Council of the Aging) TASMANIA, was held at the C3 Convention Centre in South Hobart on Wednesday. Highlighting the Theme ‘Activiites that connect Generations’ a range of fun activities were provided for families to enjoy.Of course Moonah Club were pleased to be involved when asked to provide the BBQ. Although the sun did shine the occasional wind blasts were a challenge at times. It could be still be safely assumed the day was a great success and

provided great school holiday family fun. COTA TASMANIA has been the primary organisation representing the rights of older Tasmanians for 60 years. It is run by staff and volunteers who strive to ensure that the contributions of older people are proudly recognised and acknowledged within the community.

District Governor’s Visit

Last Tuesday we welcomed DG Ken Moore and his wife Lois for an official visit. He opened his address by reminding us of this years’s Rotary theme “Light Up Rotary” He explained the meaning of the theme chosen by the Rotary World President who said “It is better to light one candle than to sit in the darkness”  In the case of an emergency or disaster it is easy to sit by and do nothing however one single action can prompt many others. This is the Rotary way and has been proven in many instances where Rotary ” lights one candle” other Rotarians  “light more candles” and together so much more is achieved. Rotary Youth Driver Awareness Program (RYDA)

Moonah Rotary members were again pleased to take part in the RYDA Program held at the Showgrounds during August. The 2,300 students from Year 10 took part this year over a two week period. The RYDA Program was developed in response to the tragic loss of young people in road crashes. Young people aged 17-25 represent less than than 15% of the population yet account for around one quarter of deaths and injuries on our roads.   During the RYDA Program (more…)

Guest Speaker- Lowilla Okello

LowillaLowilla Okello works with CentreCare to help support Sudanese Refugees to settle in Tasmania. After a visit to his home village in South Sudan and seeing how in need the children were for education he returned to Tasmania and formed the Young Seeds Foundation.   (more…)

How lucky was this! At last Tuesday’s meeting Kate was the winner of both the Raffle and the Sports Card draw.  Its certainly a first and she can’t ‘whine’ about never winning again! Monies raised go to the funding of Xmas Hampers for disadvantaged and the wine is kindly donated by the Carlyle Hotel each week. Enjoy Kate.
